Teenage Kicks

A band on the run, raised on their parents' record collections.

INSPIRATION.

A few songs/artists that have been inspiring me to write lately.

Feist - The Undiscovered First:

Peter’s already gushed about this album on here but I haven’t had a chance to do it yet.  This has quickly become one of my favorites.  It’s one of those albums that makes you happy because it’s so good, but makes you sad at the same time because you quickly realize you’ll never be able to write something as good.

This song is one of the moodier ones, sounds like the Constantines (which rules) and has an unreal ending. The album is about 3/4 moody songs, 1/4 cutesy love songs (which are also great).

Bry Webb - Undertaker:

Bry Webb is possibly my favorite Canadian songwriter (for males at least) who fronted (in my opinion) the best Canadian rock band that has existed and he continues to write great songs with his new project.  Peter, Pat and I went to see him at the Music Gallery last week where he played to a completely silent room of a few hundred people.  It was pretty incredible to say the least.  “Undertaker” is off his new album called Provider.

Oasis - The Hindu Times:

I was listening to this song the other day and I could only think of one way to describe it. “Triumph of Rock”.  It sounds ridiculous, but c’mon.  Listen to it!  TRIUMPH OF ROCK!

Seriously though, sometimes I listen to certain Oasis songs and think, “god, these guys are terrible” but then I come back to the good ones (like this, all of What’s The Story, and all the scattered gems across their albums) and remember why I love their band.

The Beatles - Don’t Let Me Down

One of my favorite Beatles songs, would love to cover it sometime (hint hint, Pete).  I don’t think I need to explain why I like it, just listen.

The Dirty Nil - Fuckin’ Up Young

I hope those guys don’t find it weird, but their songs are really good and they’re 3 years younger than me.  It makes me feel like I’ve wasted a lot of time not writing, I’ve gotta catch up!
